Musical Memoirs: Introduction

Ever since I can remember, music has been an especially special part of my life.  When I was a kid, I loved to dance to it, sing along with it...  If there was a song and if I listened to it 2-3 times, I had it memorized.  The entire thing.  Even the background vocals.  I think I drove Mama half-crazy singing along with my Sony CD player.  It got on her nerves that all she heard was this kid singing, and there would be pauses when the musicians paused and so on... but she couldn't hear the music itself.  Not my fault.  She wouldn't let me turn the volume up enough, lol.

I can't begin to fully explain just how much music means to me.  But I can tell you this much at the very least:
  • If you break my mp3 player and do not die... you are either married to me, or too disabled to have realized what you were doing, and even then, you'd better run.
  • If my iPod Nano's screen should crack - even if it still works like it's supposed to - I will be too depressed about the crack to listen to it.
  • Some songs help me to express things that I couldn't really express otherwise.
  • You can generally tell my mood by what I'm listening to, but in order to do so, you must know how I feel about the music I'm listening to.
  • My musical preference is wide and varied.  There isn't just one genre that is my favorite, but rather I have temporary favorites.  I might listen to country non-stop for 3 months.  Then switch to rock.
  • I probably don't care much about your opinion regarding the music I listen to unless it is pertinent information, such as, "I heard this band gets their lyrics from a High Priest of Satan, so I don't listen to them."  Because there is a "reason".
All of that being said, I think I've decided to take a closer look at what some of my favorite songs mean/have meant to me.  I think that my readers will find that music has had and will continue to play an important role in my life.  An important role that I look forward to sharing with the rest of the world.

It is my hope and prayer that other music appreciators will take my musical memoirs as an opportunity to share their own feelings about songs with me.  As always, I welcome your comments and thoughts on my writings.  :D
