Painted Words: Episode 9 - Confessions of a Military Wife

Getting back into the swing of things, FINALLY. So I decided to start off with a book review on a book I've been reading for the last few weeks. Normally it doesn't take me quite this long to read a book, but I really wanted and needed to soak this one in, so I appreciate your patience in awaiting the review.

The review is on Confessions of a Military Wife by Mollie Gross, a comedian and military wife. She shares some of her comedy in the book, which made it ideal for me, because we all know how much I love to laugh.

This is an amazing book, and I can really relate to much of what the author discusses. She brings a wonderful light to a very confusing, and difficult lifestyle. She talks about how she met and grew to love a marine, how they married, and their life together as a military family. This book also covers many of the new (and often frightening) experiences military spouses face upon arrival into the crazy-mad world of a base etc.

Mollie Gross tells much of what she's experienced from an optimistic point of view. She shows that there were definitely times of frustration and sorrow amid the craziness that is the life of an often-single bride. The entire book has been truly uplifting so far, and I look very forward to the last few chapters.

I highly recommend this book, not only for military wives, but also for their families, friends, and those close to any servicemember. The reason for this is that it is a difficult thing to attempt to understand what the spouses of these men and women go through. There is so much that we cannot share, and yet the families and friends of our spouses are so concerned and want to be a part of the "big picture" that is military life.

I know that I have been extremely "in general" about this book, but please do not let that stop you from reading it. It truly is a joy and a blessing to so many people out there, and I thank Mollie Gross for having written it for us.

Confessions of a Military Wife by Mollie Gross is an honest, witty and often hilarious look at the life of the new generation military wife. Mollie, the wife of a former Marine Corps officer, is a standup comedienne and public speaker. In her book, she explores everything from deployment and the stress of having a husband in a combat zone, to the realization that marriage changes when your husband returns from war. Mollie shows that all women, civilian or military, can learn to find the funny side of anything by embracing the situation and changing their perspective.
