Scraps

It's been a pretty eventful, yet uneventful past month or so. I haven't updated in like five weeks, lol.

For those who don't know yet, my boyfriend, Drew left on August 14th for the Great Lakes in Illinois. He's there for Basic Training for the Navy. I'm proud of him like nobody's business, and I can't wait to see him again. The first day or two was pretty rough. The last time I saw him was on Aug. 13th (technically the 12th...the date just lasted long enough to be the 13th as well) because we live 2 hours away from each other as it is, so unfortunately, I didn't get to see him off on the 14th, although, it's probably for the best that I didn't. That would've been harsh. After he left me at home, I walked into the house, picked up Rica (my chihuahua) and whispered in her ear, "I'll need you now more than ever..." She went to bed with me that night and didn't leave except to greet my dad when he came home from work. I spent the 13th in Lifesprings (Wendy's internet connection was out due to a storm) with my face turned towards the windows and the other side of it covered by my hand in an effort to hide my tears. I have never been seperated from a boyfriend outside of a break up until now, so it was pretty rough on me at first as I felt a little like we were broken up, even though we weren't. Fortunately, Dr. Nesbit was online and he cried with me some and prayed for me and spent a lot of time just talking to me. I really needed that. Anna and Bracha were also online throughout the day, so I didn't spend the day completely without friends.

On the 15th, I received a call from my recruiter asking that I attend a DEP (delayed entry program) meeting on the 19th. I said I would. When I went in to the meeting, my recruiter wasn't there. He had told me that I was to "observe" the meeting, but there were no other instructions. So I just "observed". Everyone else did their PT (physical training) while I just stood there going, "Yeah...you guys...go." There was a YN (Yeoman, administrative secretary) there who doesn't work at the recruiting station, but they had invited him to visit and answer any questions we might have about boot camp as he left boot camp about a year and a half ago, which meant that he is a bit fresher on what happens there than our recruiters. It was interesting talking to him because I am really interested in the Yeoman position. Five minutes before the meeting was over, my recruiter walked in. I took him all the paperwork I was to bring in...he nearly lost my birth certificate within 2 minutes of receiving it amid all his other paperwork on the desk. I had to show him where he put it! I am now to attend DEP meetings once every other week on Tuesdays. I am not allowed to participate due to the fact that I have yet to sign a waiver. So basically, all I do is observe. My recruiter didn't show up for last week's meeting at all. To top it off, he doesn't even know half of what I go through because he never really talks to me much...his coworkers help me with my problems.

Mom signed me up for adult swim lessons at the local Y, so I'm doing that on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I really like swimming and I want to be able to do it well when I get to Boot Camp myself...whenver that is. I need to go to MEPS first... But I have no idea when that will happen.

I've been getting pretty depressed/frustrated off and on lately because of several things. There's the issues with my recruiter. There's the fact that I feel I'm getting nowhere with all this Navy stuff...and yet we were thinking I would be leaving for Boot Camp before Drew got back...probably not happening. I feel a little left out and ostricized at the DEP meetings because (a) I'm not in DEP yet and (b) I'm the only one there not required/allowed to do the PT...and yet, I'm there, so the DEPers keep asking if I'm going to run this time.

Yesterday, I got an unexpected phone call from Drew. That made me smile. Poor thing lost my address, lol...and I wasn't there to help him find it, so... yeah. He says that he's doing alright and that he'll send me a detailed letter soon. Drew, if you ever read this, I hope you enjoy what you've gotten yourself in to :D *wink*. For those who haven't seen my room, it's pretty much a wreck right now (it gets that way when I get depressed) and currently the only things that are in any semblance of order are the envelopes for the letters I send Drew, and the newspaper clippings I've cut out for him. They are pretty much my only "fun" things outside of the internet right now because I like chopping them up for him :D.

Can I just say that probably some of the sweetest words I've ever heard out of Drew's mouth (aside from what I heard over the phone yesterday after not talking to him for a full month) was what he said before he left me at my house on the 13th at 12:32 a.m. "Until next time...that way it won't seem so long."
