Early this week, I was told that our original plans of visiting Georgia for the weekend were now ruined by the threat of a hurricane. The reason was to be that whenever hurricanes come to the coast, the Naval ships leave in order to avoid the storms. The comedy of this particular event, was the 10-day forecast I read through on Monday. It stated that we were to expect sunshine and few clouds / thunderstorms throughout the entire week and weekend.
"They either forgot something or this is going to be the sunniest, most happy hurricane anyone's ever seen." - my Facebook Notes 8/30/10I also quickly discovered that hurricane watches here in Norfolk are much much worse than the "one-snowflake-is-gonna-fall" warnings in Georgia. In Georgia, we fight over cans of spam, milk, bread... to rescue ourselves from starvation. Here, the commissary is so full of people, that the checkout lane is backed up all the way to aisle 19's end at the other side of the store. The best part of this is that there are 19 aisles total in the store. One friend even reported spending 25 minutes trying to find a parking space!
These things having been said, we are learning a lot, whether by mistake, or by fault of the weathermen... but may the lessons last forever, lest we have to re-learn them. :-D
