This particular blog is inspired by a song I recently heard on the radio, entitled Pray for You. When I first heard this song, I must admit, I laughed. Ok, so it was more like I laughed hysterically. I couldn't help but think of how I myself can relate to the song. The next day, my mother-in-law found the Youtube video for the song and wanted to show it to me. I laughed again (though not as hard). But it wasn't until today that I really thought about it. Without further ado, here is the Youtube.
You can view the lyrics here.
Earlier today, someone on a message board where I posted this video mentioned that there might be some people who would take the song seriously, and think that this was a good idea to do. It was also suggested that it coud potentially give non-Christians the wrong idea about a loving God. I definitely understand the concerns here, but I also think there is a different side to this.
In Mark chapter 6, Jesus is speaking to His disciples and tells them that if they are ever not received or listened to in any place by any people, they are to shake the dust that is on their feet as a testimony against those people or that town. Later on, Luke gives a different account of the same instance. Matthew also describes it. Now here is my question: Shaking the dust as a testimony against someone else... isn't that similar to what is described in the song?
Furthermore, do we not all have some point in our lives when we have wanted so desperately (no matter how wrong we were) to pray a prayer like that? This is why I find it so funny. It's revealing a small portion of what so many have done or are doing today. I'm calling all my readers to be truly honest with themselves on this one.
What say you?
